There are 50 schools in the Wyre and Preston North Constituency and every single one of them will lose funding next year compared to 2015 according to figures from the schoolcuts.org.uk website .

There is a total shortfall in 2020 of £4.3 million with an average loss of £280 per pupil.

Fulwood Academy takes the top slot with a shortfall of £490,934 in 2020. This is equivalent to £612 per pupil loss, in an area where child poverty is above average.

However, it’s the primary schools in the villages across the constituency that see the largest cut per pupil, in Inskip, St Peter’s C of E School is coping with a staggering loss of £2,364 per pupil.

That is dwarfed by the cuts in Calder Vale, here at St John (C of E) school, the cuts are £5,254 per pupil.

These are good local schools at the heart of their community, providing valuable education with diminishing resources.

The Tories have decimated our schools, class sizes are soaring as there are not enough good school places. The severity of Tory cuts mean there are nearly half a million primary-age children now in large classes over 30. Since 2010, spending per pupil has fallen by 8 per cent.

Many head teachers are using the pupil premium to keep their budgets afloat and parents are being asked by cash-strapped schools to pay for teaching resources.

Labour will stop Conservative cuts to school budgets, give schools a real terms increase in funding, provide universal free school meals for all primary school children and get class sizes down to under 30 for all 5, 6 and 7 year olds.
